(More customer reviews)I bought FIVE of these things as Christmas gifts for family members. The only thing I CAN'T complain about is that the alarms on all five devices DID work and WERE set off by whistles.
(Unfortunately everything else in the world also set them off, too.)Clapping set them off. Clanging pots and pans set them off. Telephone and cell phone and doorbell ringing set them off. They were set off by shouting, door and drawer slamming, microwave food-is-done beeping, dog barking, clinking silverware, and more. Sometimes just the act of setting the key finder down, or moving/sliding it around, on the table or counter set off the alarm. The key finder clinking against the jingling keys set it off. They are durable little $#!*%s.
My brother got in the habit of swinging his against walls, tables, and counters to make the beeping stop when it went off at inappropriate times. It survived about a month of this treatment.
My mom, an elementary school teacher, took hers off her keyring and threw it out of a second story window into a pond after it went off six times during timed FCAT testing. (The first 2 times it was just sitting on her desk, the next time it was in the back of a drawer in her desk, the fourth and fifth times she was trying to remove the batteries, the sixth time it was in the trashcan, the seventh time it was flying through the air.)
My dad drowned his in our birdbath. I took it out when I found out. When it dried out, it actually produced one distorted, crackling, whining beep before it died.
Mine would go off if you flicked it with your finger. I put it in the coupon drawer, where I also kept the spare 5th device. For two years, before the battery died, closing the drawer, closing the garage door, and yelling too close to it would set it off even though it was in the back of a closed drawer.
The fifth device, a spare, still had a paper slip to keep it from beeping and using up the battery. One day I took it to a stranger's garage sale and left it there for them to sell.If you wanted to let a puppy or ferret play outside (in tall grass or bushes, for instance), just clip this to their collar with a few jingling things. Every time the critter leaps and bounds, the beeper goes off. It also lights up with a flashing red light.
My mom said that if she had had this when I was a little girl, she would have clipped it to me whenever we went shopping. (I loved to wander around when I was younger. The second my mom took her eyes off me I was gone.)
